I don’t know how to review fiction and I’m lazy so vague thoughts:

  • Really liked the collection overall, the writing style is fun and very memorable. Would not particularly recommend only if you can be squeamish because:

  • Ogawa really seems to want to dissect human corpses 24/7, there’s a lot of (thinking about) cutting people up etc. still fun though

  • This is the rare short story collection where it actually feels like it’s a coherent collection - thematically a lot of the stories are similar (incl a strong focus on women and women’s wrongs/rights/being stifled by a patriarchical society etc), but also the stories start all making little references to each other throughout - the plot of one story appears as a fun short story by an author in another, etc.
